Being a mother and returning to work: is there a manual?
If only. If only.If only. So, I went through a chapter in my life after...
I have two little girls, Margot and Raphaëlle. And after my first pregnancy with my eldest daughter Margot,I returned to work very quickly, after just two and a half months, saying to myself: "That's it, it's just like before, I need to jump right back in it!" I like what I do. I wanted to do it too.
I wanted to, and no one forced me to come back after two and a half months.
It was something I enjoyed doing and it was voluntary, desired, and a personal choice.
But telling myself: "Come on, I'll go back to my old life." I have to show them that I am twice as capable of doing what I was doing before.
And so, after that period,I went to a trade show, a conference, the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
At that time, I was in Paris.A trade show with over 90,000 attendees, telecom operators from all over the world, and a large number of exhibitors, including the company's competitors, is a challenging environment for any company.nationalities, a huge commotion.
We were talking business, and after an hour, I found myself thinking, "But what am I doing here?" I was thinking about my daughter so much and I said to myself:"This isn't my place at all." I felt terribly ill.
And I hadn't thought about it before. I hadn't imagined what it would be like.
It was going to be this trade show, these three intense days at the hotel before that precise moment.
I hadn't thought about it.I said to myself: "It's like before, no pasa nada" as they say in Spanish.
Actually, it was a major crash.I felt very emotional and thought to myself: "This is ridiculous." That's not what I want, it's not now, that wasn't the point.
And it's true that when it comes to that, I don't think there's a manual.
There is no miracle solution, but there may be some ideas that these are issues that are now increasingly being taken into account in boxes, in companies, in particular.
And I think of French Tech, which, recently, over the last few years, produces documents providing assistance with returning to work after pregnancy.
I think it's really interesting to think about it.
Firstly, encourage startups to delegate tasks effectively, significantly increase salaries, and also establish working hours.
To balance the roles a little, that's essential, but especially in companies, to also train HR managers, managers that is returning to work after pregnancy.
So, by having more flexibility in working arrangements, about the schedule, understanding what it entails and consider the needs of the person returning.
It's something that is increasingly being taken into account, and I think it's crucial for a person's well-being, and to have a harmoniously return, because obviously,it's not like before, it's different.
It can be different and even much better, and it is.
I think it needs to be digested and discussed more than what is happening at the moment.
